Shortly after the office was opened, the Mayor (Councillor Stanton), on behalf of the Corporation, despatched a telegram to the Postmaster-General, congratulating him upon the erection so handsome and commodious a structure, for which, said, "the inhabitants desired to return their grateful thanks." The front of the building is Gothic in style, the length of the frontage being 70ft. The central portion is carried up in two principle [sic] gables, separated by a smaller one. The lower storey is entirely of Camden Hill stone, and finished with an ornamental cornice. The upper part of the front is carried up in Napton bricks, with Campden Hill stone dressings, and the gables are finished with a stone coping. The internal fittings are all pitch-piece and mahogany. The building has been erected from plans by Mr. H. Tanner, of her Majesty’s Office of Works, London ; and Mr. W. Robbins, Warwick, was the contractor |
