The new building, the front office of which was utilised the busy part of last summer, is thoroughly up-to-date. The front of the building is Bath and Portland stone. On the basement there are eleven rooms. The ground floor contains the public office, the sorting office overseers room, messenger's room and postmen's kitchen. In the public office there are 23 writing compartments. Entrance is by swing doors, and in busy times exit can be made by a side door. The whole building work, which was begun early in 1909 has been carried out by Messrs. Woodman and Sons, of Exeter, and the fittings were also provided by the same firm. The whole of the undertaking has been designed and carried out by the Office of Works, and the building has been under the personal supervision of Mr. G. Batten, of London.
