Building description From: Reading Mercury 1 October 1892, p. 4
The new Post Office which has been recently erected in the lower part of High-street was opened for public business on Monday morning. The premises are very substantial and commodious, and the front elevation has light and pleasing appearance. The public office is a spacious and lofty apartment 25ft. by 20 ft., but here a little more light would be an advantage. The large sorting-room in the rear is well lighted from a skylight in the roof, and is fitted with every convenience for making up the mails. On the ground floor are the instrument room, post-master's office, and various retiring rooms for employees, suitably fitted. The floor above the public office is divided with rooms for the caretaker. The total cost, exclusive of the site, has been about £2,500. The work has been carried out by Mr. Goodchild, of Reading.
