The building, which is in the Georgian style, fronts the High Street. The central feature is the public entrance portico formed with three-quarter columns. Architrave and entablature are carried out in teak, with an ornate wrought iron fanlight above the entrance doors. The building finishes above a plain Bath stone coping with a steep pitched roof of hand sand-faced tiles. The public office interior has an extensive counter, with panelled dado and joinery carried out in Burma mahogany. Above the dado, the walls are buff, and are finished with a moulded cornice to the ceiling and beams. The floor is laid with vitreous ceramic tiles. A writing table and inset telephone cabinet are provided. The remainder of the building comprises an up-to-date sorting office, with instrument room and boys' room. On the first floor is welfare accommodation, with cooking facilities for the male and female staff, and a stores department. extensive loading yard is approached from the side road. A basement heating chamber, with fuel store provides modern heating and hot water throughout the building.
