Last Friday, the new Post office, in Guildhall-street, was opened for business, and its central situation is found to be exceedingly convenient The new office, which is thirty feet by twenty-two feet, comprises all the modern contrivances for facilitating the despatch of the important business of letter sending. Amongst other things are district, sorting, and sealing tables; a counter, with cash drawers, &c.; a separate entrance for the officials and letter carriers; a private office for the postmaster, looking into th principal office ; and also other conveniences for the use of the clerks. The fittings, which are exceedingly well made are painted, and oak grained. The upper part of the house, the masters residence, is also commodious; it comprises dining and drawing-rooms, six large bed rooms, kitchen, scullery.&c The elevation is Italian Gothic, with coat of arms over the office windows. The shutters, made by Francis and Co. revolve , and are wound up or let down in the inside. Mr. Hy Goddard was the architect, and Mr. H. Jackson, of Broadgate the builder. The entire cost of the office is about £1100 which has been granted by the Post-office authorities. The building and fittings were inspected last week, and approved.
